Friday evenings trio of 30-lap Modifieds races saw a changing of the guard as Kyle Wood took the checkered flag in the first and third races.
Wood kept a difficult field that included Thomas Stinson and Mike Rudy at bay while he picked up his first two wins at the track.
In the first race, Stinson made an attempt to take the lead but contact with Aubrey Thurston brought about a caution that gave Wood breathing room with the lead.
Behind Wood in the first race came Billy Morris, Jason Eberth, Stinson, and Chris Johnson to round out the top five.
Stinson took the checkered flag in the second race; his 10th win on the season in Modifieds. Tiger Williams was second, Billy Morris third, Jason Eberth fourth, and Chris Hoylman was fifth to round out the top five in the second race.
In the third race, Stinson was second, Billy Morris third, Chris Johnson fourth, and Jason Eberth fifth.
Prince George’s Mike Rudy, the second place points sitter, had difficulty with his engine and finished in the bottom of the bunch in all three races.
In the points standings, Stinson maintains a formidable lead over the field; Rudy, Eberth, Hoylman and Christopher Johnson round out the top five.
In the 50-lap grand stock event, Fred Key took the checkered flag. Daniel Shelton, Richard Skeens, Keith Mackta and Chris Hott rounded out the top five.
In the 30-lap U-Car race, Lauren Edgerton picked up her first career win. Michael Chapman, Michael Moore, Damon Fender, and Mike Shiflett rounded out the top five.
In the 20-lap Macka event, Jason Higginbotham took the checkered flag. Brad Davis, Alan Purser, Mark Claytor, and Chris Johnson rounded out the top five.
In observance of the coming weekend’s NASCAR races at Richmond International Raceway, races at Southside Speedway will be run on Thursday. Races on tap include a 150-lap Late Model Sportsman race and a 50-lap Grand Stock race. Race time is 7:30 p.m.
